Evaluation question 2 Front Cover

My magazine is aimed at both men and women. The reason I have done this is it will increase the target audience being aimed at both genres and it means there is something for everything. My cover stars are women but that doesn't mean that it's aimed at just women and could be aimed at men if they like the artist. My age range of my magazine is 16-25 because that age range will be the most interested in finding out about new music and keeping up to date with their favourite bands. The cover star's fall into this age range, therefore the target audience will be able to interact with the artists more and relate to what they are saying. The genre for this magazine is mainly alternative/ indie, however it also spans across of other genres such as rock. I have done this so that it relates to a range of people that like to listen to different kinds of the genre.

The house style of my magazine is white, red and black. The reason I have chosen these colours because they are bold and stand out on the page, also the connotations of red are loud and stand out, which correlates the genre of guitar based/ rock music. In the bottom right I have a list of artists that will also be featured in the magazine as well as the cover star. I have done this to give the reader options if they don't like the cover stars. My main cover feature is the biggest feature on the page and is made bolder with a black outline. This reason I have done to highlight that the star is a big deal and that it's an important story.

I have included a pug in my work which highlights a feature in the magazine. In this case it's about what readers think there perfect gig would be. I have put this in a circle because as well as it being a feature; it also promotes audience participation within the magazine because it's highlighting that the audience opinion does count within the magazine.

The masthead of my magazine is the biggest font on the page. The font itself is bold, this is so it stands out and it’s the first thing that people read on the page. My masthead is abreacted so that people remember it better and so that the name is short and snappy. The name of my magazine is "set it off", the representations of this name is to just go for it and to go crazy, which then correlates with the iconography of the music being loud music. Also the way i have written it is i have put 'set it' in black and 'off' in red, the reason that i have done this is to emphasise the off, making it seem more dominating.
At the bottom of my page i have included a banner with a feature on it. The reason i have included this is to make the feature stand out. I have also put a secondary image to promote the feature. I have done this because it highlights the bands success within what they are doing and also that they have a fan base that they would want you to join. In the bottom of the page I have included the barcode, I have included this because it is an important convention that a magazine need. I have also put the website in on top of the barcode; I have put this in because it creates a world around the magazine that the audience can get involved in.
