Question 1: Who would be the audience for your media product?
The target audience of my magazine will be for 16-25 for both women and men.
This makes them fall into the socio-economic scale of D and E. The reason that
I have chosen to have this as my audience is it's a market that takes the most
interest in following bands and their lifestyles, therefore meaning that my
magazine would have interest from that kind of target audience. I have also
chosen to have this target audience because it uses a lot of social networking.
I would therefore be able to make a symbiotic relationship by having Facebook
Pages and Twitter pages to spread my target audience and market my product.
The genre of my magazine will be alternative/ indie as well as artists from
the rock genre. I have decided to have a wide range of genres because it will
increase the target audience and allow the readers to see different kinds of
music that they may not have listened to.
I feel that there is a need for my magazine because there is a need for a
wide ranged magazine that takes various genres and puts them into one magazine
for people who like a broad range of music. Also i think that as well as having
a range of music, readers will be able to hear about new bands that are appearing
and this is to keep new music coming to peoples ears.
Looking at my mood board, the things that my target audience is mostly
looking for is people that will want to go to gigs and festivals. Therefore i
have tried to target my audience by having a lot of information on gigs and
where bands are playing and to give the latest news on what is happening with
festival line-ups. Also my mood board shows that there will be more of a focus
on actual bands and a smaller look on solo artists. This is so the audience can
connect more with the music and the people that play it rather than it just
being about one person. If my magazine had to be compared it would be similar
to NME because it reaches a wide range of target audiences because of its wide
range of music.

I think that my magazine fits into a niche market which
combines new and upcoming music with bigger names and that my magazine reaches a
lot of genres. I think that there was a gap in the market for something like
this because now i can present a various number of genres in a way that makes
all people want to read my magazine because there is something for everyone.
Also i will be able to connect to people by including things that people enjoy,
whether it's fashion or social networking, there will be something for
everyone. This will mean that more people will want to buy my magazine because
they will be able to relate to anything.
My primary audience
will be people who listen to alternative music and have a different style other
than mainstream. My magazine would be aimed at men and women because my
features will more focus on the music rather than on gender specific topics. My
age range will be 16-25 because there would be more interested in what is
happening within their music. I have also aimed it at that age group because
looking at new bands and being more individual is a main part of that age
range. My secondary audience will be people who may be outside of my main age
range, but still into that sort of music. Also if someone has brought the
magazine and someone they know (friend, family member) likes something inside
that issue then they may want to read then they could just lend them a cop of
the magazine. My demographic will be people who are interested in alternative
music and having an individual style. These kinds of people would shop in
places like Affleck’s palace as well as vintage places and quirky shops.

An example of a product which i similar to mine would be NME. This is a magazine that also spans across a wide range of genres. However it is more focused on a male audience so i would want my magazine to have a male and female target audience.

To make my magazine realiastic to the genre, i have been looking at some of the artists that influence the genre. Some of these include Paramore, You Me At Six, Arctic Monkeys, Muse, The Vaccines, We Are the In Crowd as well as many different artists that act as role models to people. I have looked at people who would inspire people to make music and be in bands. For example, Paramore are a band that write there own music and lryics, and also incourage fans to make music and love there fans. I would not include people such as Justin Beiber, One Direction and Katy Perry because they are not relavent to the genre and are solo artists rather than actual bands. My ideal readers are people who want to know about the actual music and people who aspire to be in bands themselves. Also they would be people who are loyal to finding out about new music and new sounds that they like.
